Organic non hazardous waste Valuation

We provide several composting facilities where we undertake organic waste recycling. This process involves the activity of microorganisms (fungi, bacteria, etc) for the decomposition of organic matter. To achieve this process our specialists establish and supervise the necessary optimal temperature, humidity and oxygen conditions, in each of our facilities.

In the past few years, we have developed new technologies to obtain compost that allow us to better utilize the space and reduce the time for processing

Treating organic waste using these new technologies reduces the volume that is sent to landfills and reduces reliance on  chemical fertilizer.

Intraval manages three facilities for compost production

Santa Coloma de Farners (Girona),  Jorba (Barcelona) and Pradejón (La Rioja)

SANTA COLOMA DE FARNERS

Located in Santa Coloma de Farners (Girona) city hall, the company specialises in FORM composting, that is collected with de la Selva comarca. The facility’s capacity is 11,560 tons a year. Currently the plant is being expanded to install a tunnel system that will increase the capacity to 12,500 Tonnes a year and 5,000 additional Tonnes a year of uncomposted bark and plant fraction.

JORBA

A gray compost facility located in Jorba (Anoia) with a capacity to treat 30,000 tons a year of industrial sludge with high content of metals. The gray compost or dried biological treatment sludge is a pre treatment technology for organic waste that can be used prior to disposal in a landfill. Typically this reduces the hazardous nature of the waste, its volume of waste and costs associated with transport and disposal. 


PRADEJÓN

Since 2006, Intraval has developed sustainable organic waste treatment in Pradejon (La Rioja). This company was established by La Rioja government as a pilot facility to find a solution to the volume of waste in the city.

Through compost we achieve minimisation of the pathogens content of the material, stabilisation, reduction of volume and waste humidity, in that way we can produce a stable material, that is easy to use. The resulting product is high quality compost, recognized by the department of fertilizers products registration.

AGRICULTURAL APPLICATION

Since 2003, we have managed all the sludge coming from urban waste water treatment facilities in Vilanova I la Geltru, Sitges, Sabadell, Mataro, and Sant Feliu. In 2006, we processed 14,200 tons of sludge; 2007, 12,200 tons and 2008 a total of 11,000 tons.

In 2007 we obtained the “Management of non hazardous waste” permit, for agricultural application of treated sludge to land in the Rioja region. In 2008 we tendered and successfully gained  the contract to manage urban waste treatment facilities in Madrid and Castilla y Leon.
