Marpol – Regulations to prevent contamination from maritime ships

Marpol regulations cover the waste generated by maritime ships. They provide guidelines to the correct management of the different streams, from hazardous liquids to non-hazardous solids.

Marpol Annex I regulates Oily waste generated by Vessels:

A TYPE: crude oil cargo residues from oil tanker vessels, and ballast waters affected with crude oil.
B TYPE: hydrocarbons cargo oily residues from oil tanker vessels, different from crude oil, with density below one.
C TYPE: sludge, bilge waters and oily residues from vessel’s engine rooms, fuel purification equipment, and engine oils.
