The NGO Noves Tecnologies per Àfrica is responsible for sending computers to African countries to provide this material, mainly to schools, so that children are not excluded from technological progress. In total, 67 laptops, 29 tower computers, 11 keyboards and 10 screens have been donated. The equipment will go to a project in the Democratic Republic of Congo, specifically to a school built by a Congolese foundation called FODAK with which the organisation has already worked on other occasions.

This school is in a village called Mbuji-Mayi in the province of Kasai Oriental, in the centre-south of the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly known as Belgian Congo). This centre provides free schooling for children from this group and gives them access to primary and secondary education. The computers provided along with other materials collected from other donations will be used to create a computer room in this school.

How computers are prepared for re-use

Once the computers have been collected, they are taken to the workshop, where they are checked to ensure that they work properly and to erase all the data they contain.

Once this first step has been completed, the computers are packed and taken to a warehouse to await transport to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Once in the DRC, the FODAK Foundation takes care of the transport to Mbuji-Mayi and to the school. At the school, a group of computer technicians trained by the FODAK Foundation installs and sets up the equipment to get the classroom up and running.
